Meckel’s Scan

WHAT IS A MECKEL’S SCAN?

A Nuclear Medicine Meckel’s Scan is used to assess the presence of a Meckel’s Diverticulum.


This test can also be called a Tc99m Meckel’s Scan or a Meckel’s Diverticulum Study.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A MECKEL’S SCAN?

When you arrive, you will be given a small injection of a radiotracer. The injection should not make you feel any different. You will then have approximately 40 minutes of imaging.

HOW LONG DOES A MECKEL’S SCAN TAKE?

The test takes up to 1 hour.

PREPARATION REQUIRED FOR A MECKEL’S SCAN?

  • Please make staff aware if you think you maybe pregnant or if you are breast-feeding prior to making an appointment.            
  • Please fast for 4 hours prior to your scan.           
  • Please bring previous scans which relate to your Bowel or Abdomen.

WHEN WILL MY DOCTOR RECEIVE MY RESULTS?

Your Referring Doctor will receive your results within 48hrs.
